RANT: Rachel Zoe Leslie Clutch

Rachel Zoe Leslie Clutch

Rachel Zoe's debut handbag line finally launched at Neiman Marcus earlier this week.  I, for one, have been anticipating this collection for quite some time, simply because I love her personal style and she's an amazing celebrity stylist.  Upon initial inspection, I hate to say it, but I'm not impressed.  Unfortunately, there's nothing innovative or interesting about any of the designs.  I can see what she was going for, but timeless handbags don't really work unless the materials are of the highest quality, and it's pretty obvious that hers aren't.  Take the Leslie clutch, for example.  While I adore the lovely pewter color of the leather, it actually looks inexpensive, even with the amazing visual department at Neimans.  The key hardware is super cute, but it's so golden that it practically screams, "look at me, I'm cheap!"  And don't even get me started on the calf hair version.  The hairs are so shiny and short that they actually resemble velvet.  If this bag were a piece in her QVC diffusion line and the prices were considerably lower, I would probably support it, but at $350?  I'll pass!

Believe it or not, that wasn't the rant. Can we talk for a moment about the apparel collection?  Each and every design is either inspired by another designer or it's a complete knockoff.  She copied so many different looks that the collection isn't even cohesive.  I think Zoe has proven once and for all that she's merely a label obsessed shopper pretending to be a fashion designer.  Let's play a little game, shall we?  Check out the collection and see how many labels you can spot.  I'll go first.  Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain, Chanel, Chloé, Burberry...

Christian Louboutin Mini Sweet Charity Bag

Christian Louboutin Mini Sweet Charity Bag

When it comes to Christian Louboutin's Sweet Charity Bag, I certainly didn't experience love at first sight.  The style seemed a bit overwhelming for a flap bag.  What can I say?  I like my everyday bags to be timeless and sophisticated.  However, when I spotted this scaled down version, my opinion completely changed.  This is the perfect bag to instantly enliven a dull evening look.  Pair it with a simple and chic little black dress and wait for the compliments to pour in.  The glitter embellished exterior of the bag provides the perfect backdrop for an oversized plum suede bow.  Gold hardware and studded detailing add to the glamorous aesthetic.  Clutches are fabulous, but you can't beat the ease of a simple snap closure and chain shoulder strap.  Petite women may even be able to pull this little beauty off as an adorable mini crossbody.  In quintessential Louboutin fashion, this bag is lined in red twill.  Purchase at NET-A-PORTER for $795.

Jordin Sparks: Making a Splash

Jordin Sparks
For this season, designers pulled out all the stops for beachwear. From vintage looks reminiscent of the debutantes of the 50s to boudoir influenced pieces that skim the fine line between lingerie and bathing suits, the swimwear looks that hit the runways were all about eye-catching styles that created and accentuated womanly curves. I'm particularly fond of the vibrant and iridescent prints. This is one trend that can work for women of all shapes and sizes and have everyone looking fabulous on the beach. There are many bold and bright patterns available, so why stick with just one? Take a cue from the newly svelte Jordin Sparks and mix and match polka dot women's swimwear for a simple yet chic take on this fashion trend.

Alexis Mabille Man Brooches

Brooches aren't just for ladies anymore. One of my favorite designers, Alexis Mabille, recently expanded his collection of bow ties and created some of the most breathtaking brooches that I have ever seen. His ability to take simple, albeit luxurious, pieces of fabric and transform them into a work of art is nothing short of amazing. I have always found butterflies to be the most beautiful insects, so you can imagine my surprise when I spotted these lovely brooches. The peacock variation is right up my alley, but for those of you in the market for something a bit more classic, there are plenty of solid hued versions. Best of all, you can wear these brooches in a variety of different ways. Attach one to your lapel with the convenient safety pin clasp, wear it as an actual bow tie, or even pin them to men's casual shirts from Joe Browns for a fun quirky look.  Don't hesitate to take a risk with fashion fellas.

Rimowa Trolley

With quite a few impending travel plans, I'm always on the lookout for a 3-piece luggage set.  My old Eddie Bauer travel bags that I purchased for college have seen better days and my mother stole borrowed my globetrotter.  This trolley from Rimowa may just fit the bill.  I love the look and durability of hard-sided luggage, especially trunks, but I'm drawn to the convenience and functionality of trolleys.  This piece offers the best of both worlds.  The polycarbonate exterior is virtually indestructible and removable dividers make staying organized a breeze.  This particular design features chic linear detailing and it's sizeable 32" capacity is perfect for me since I have a tendency to over pack.  The black version is incredibly sleek and masculine, but this trolley is also available in silver and gold for those of you that prefer bolder hues.

Weekly Fashion Roundup

For over a month, Prada has been searching around the world for potential investors and they have finally announced that their stock price in Hong Kong will be $39.50 HKD, which equals to about $5.06 USD per share. Since the Hong Kong market recently had a bad week, the company's IPO plans suffered tremendously. High taxes are also causing a lack of retail demand. Hong Kong residents purchasing shares of Prada are required to pay a 27% dividend tax as well as 12.5 cent capital gains tax on any shares they sell in the future. Prada's official share price is certainly lower than expected, but do you think that the tax costs will deter potential shareholders from purchasing the stock?

Ladies, it's summer time! But before you put on those sandals, perhaps you should treat yourself to a pedicure. Passione Nail Lacquer is the new shade introduced in Dolce & Gabbana's Italian Summertime collection.  It will definitely make a statement with its purple-tinged magenta hue which, depending on the light, can easily be compared to a rich rose or even a deep mauve. Dolce & Gabbana's Nail Lacquers have a thick consistency, high-shine finish, and a chip-free lasting power that easily ranks their polishes at the top of the pack, along with Chanel and Dior. This polish is a part of the continued makeup collaboration with Pat McGrath and can be found at Sake Fifth Avenue for $20.

Not due on stands until June 21, both covers of W's "Music & Style" July issue along with the corresponding spreads of Beyonce and Christina Aguilera have leaked. Of course, Beyonce looked "Sasha Fierce" in sheer blouses and lingerie pieces by Marc Jacobs and Givenchy. Christina bared it all, covered mostly by her puffy blond hairdo. Both ladies looked flawless though! Don't you agree?

Mary-Kate and Ashley in The Row

The Row - Classic Shoulder Handbag

Like most little girls, I watched and adored a gazillion Olsen twin movies. Somehow, tuning in to the girls switching places and getting themselves into all sorts of mischief never got old. Plus, I had a huge crush on Uncle Jesse, so of course I watched every episode of Full House as well. Now, Mary-Kate and Ashley are all grown up and, despite their awkward sociability and departure from acting, they remain A-list celebs by staying at the forefront of fashion. In fact, their reputable fashion line, The Row, is coveted by everyday women and fashionistas alike. They were recently nominated for the much sought after Swarovski Award for Womenswear at the CFDA Awards. Overlooking their usual awkward pursed lip smiles, bushy eyebrows, and my inclination to add 2 more inches to both of their heels (women under 5'6 should NEVER wear kitten heels), I absolutely love their looks. Ashley's classic Tiffany blue dress is incredibly chic and it's safe to say that we would all fight to the death for Mary-Kate's gold Chanel jacket, which she paired with a high-low skirt from The Row. Both ladies are also toting a variation of The Classic Shoulder Handbag  from their Fall 2011 Collection. This cute moderately sized flap bag features a short leather strap and shoulder strap for carrying versatility, beautifully finished gold hardware, and exotically printed leather. The bag definitely speaks to the Olsens' minimalist sensibility, but it's still luxurious. In an interview with Style.com, Ashley notes that the bags from The Row Fall 2011 Collection will be within the Celine and Hermès price range stating, "the workmanship and materials are at that level." I see Victoria Beckham is not the only one coming for Hermès this season. The sisters are also putting a focus on exclusivity making the bag only available in store at Barneys New York.

New Paige Gamble Alligator Clutches

I discovered Paige Gamble a little over two years ago and she has been my favorite evening bag designer ever since.  All of her designs are one of a kind, so I regularly stalk her website to see what fabulous new creations she came up with.  My favorites are always the clutches, which are typically crafted out of the finest exotic skins, and they usually feature a gorgeous brooch embellishment.  Take this black glazed American alligator skin clutch for instance.  Sure it's glamorous on its own, but the hand-carved Jade ornament makes a truly couture statement.  The matte tan alligator clutch below is perfect for summer, and it showcases a naturally beautiful slice of petrified wood.  Best of all, Paige Gamble never sacrifices function for style.  All of her bags feature plenty of interior space, several pockets, and simple closures.  Both of these clutches are suede lined for added luxury and they retail for $2,800.  You can purchase these stunning beauties directly on Paige Gamble's website, stop by her store in Aspen, or schedule an appointment to visit her showroom in New York.

Rochas Tab Clutch

With the 4th of July rapidly approaching, it's time to start thinking about what you're going to drink wear.  The weather this summer has been pleasantly mild, so I'm actually excited to hang out with my friends and see the fireworks display in DC.  For those of you attending more formal festivities, you'll certainly need a chic daytime bag, and I personally love this Rochas Tab clutch.  It's perfect for sophisticated women who appreciate timeless designs with a twist.  The smooth leather is incredibly supple and this bag is leather lined for added luxury.  My favorite design detail is the innovative square tab closure.  Pair the nude version with a little white dress and you're out the door in effortless style.  Purchase the Rochas Tab clutch at Barneys for $980.

Weekly Fashion Roundup

Fashion mags brought news in a major way this week, and one of my fave sightings was Beyonce on the cover of Dazed & Confused. It doesn't help that I'm currently obsessed with a slew of her "leaked" singles off of her new album "4."

I'm loving her looks for the shoot, from her nail polish to the mix of wardrobe print and color. I also liked this darker, subdued ensemble. She's definitely giving a look reminiscent to her B-day era, but a bit more edgy. In the cover shot, she rocked a crop top and shorts from Givenchy.

Fresh face Herieth Paul is featured on the cover of Canadian Elle and I absolutely love the styling of her white dress and jewelry (although I'm not into that wig). The 17-year-old graced the cover with unapologetic fierceness, and we would hope so, since the mag boldly splashed the words: "Naomi...Move Over!" on the cover.

Not sure about all of that, but she's definitely working that cover!

Causing quite a stir - in a good way - Italian Vogue's three plus-sized beauties gave readers more to look at, and talk about, with this sexy cover shot. In my opinion, American Vogue could take some serious notes on pushing the industry standard. Think back to Italian Vogue's first "all black" issue; kudos to the mag's editor Franca Sozzani.

Sarah Jessica Parker's Fendi Silvana Tote

I am absolutely addicted to Sex and the City now that E! reruns the show on a daily basis. For some reason, I can't get enough of Charlotte's faith in true love, Miranda's animosity towards men, Samantha's power driven  promiscuity, and Carey's hopeless romanticism. Hence, I adore Sarah Jessica Parker and all her fabulosity. I was, however, less enthused about her failed attempt at the hobo chic trend while walking the streets of NYC recently. SJP must have reached into the depths of her plethora of designer clothing to find this (for lack of better word) raggedy tunic sweater. I'm assuming the pink scarf was a last ditch effort to add life to this ensemble. On a positive note, I do love the fact that she's rocking pink hued jeans - all the rage for summer. Plus, her bag is beyond lustful. This Fendi Silvana Crocodile Flap Tote features a double top handle, Italian crafted leather, and protective metal feet. My favorite part of the bag is the modern color blocking of the green crocodile flap paired with white and black leather panels. The detailed structuring of the bag and brown leather trim on the flap also add to the beauty of this gorgeous tote. Of course, being that this bag is Fendi and crocodile, it's going to cost you an arm and a leg. This tote retails for $7000, but Saks Fifth Avenue has a leather version for $2,210. Either bag is a fabulous daytime accessory that works year-round. Hopefully, Mrs. Parker will choose an outfit that does the bag more justice next go-round.

Our U.S. end of season sale is now on. Enjoy up to 70% off your favorite designers. Shop now!

Weekly Fashion Roundup

Rachel Roy recently attended the Gordon Parks Foundation's award ceremony in New York. Roy was spotted wearing a cream single-breasted jacket over an orange draped jersey dress; nicely accessorized with a small box clutch, gold jewelry, and a pair of tan leather sandals. This look was obviously effortlessly put together and you must admit that Ms. Roy looked rather chic. Don't you agree?

Apparently one apology just wasn't enough. Friday afternoon, Cadbury released another apology to Naomi Campbell and whoever else took offense to the brand's latest ad which allegedly compares Naomi to their new chocolate bar. Although they insist that the product was never meant to deliberately hurt anyone, they do take full responsibility. This is what Cadbury had to say: "Cadbury understands that our latest advertising campaign for Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss caused upset to Naomi Campbell and her family. Cadbury takes its responsibility to consumers very seriously indeed and we would never deliberately produce any marketing material we felt might cause offense to any section of society. It was not our intention that this campaign should offend Naomi, her family or anybody else and we are sincerely sorry that it has done so." What do you think? Was the ad done in poor taste?

While attending the Fresh Air Fund gala, New York's Knicks' Carmelo Anthony commented on his new multi-page spread for Italian Vogue. Carmelo was shot by photographer Mark Seliger in his New York studio. According to Anthony, the spread was a six- or seven- page spread that will be included in either the July or August issue. Although he couldn't seem to remember all the details, Carmelo did note he wore several pieces including a Versace tux, a John Varvatos suit, and perhaps something from Tommy Hilfigur as well. Although he may not be known to many Italians, Anthony hopes to "break some barriers" for male athletes in fashion.“Basketball is growing over there in Europe; it’s getting bigger and bigger. Not as big as, like, China, not yet, but it’s getting there,” he said.

Michael Kors Leather Clutch

I'm typically drawn to glamorous handbags, from designers like Valentino and VBH. However, there's something incredibly chic about classic American styling and no one does it quite like Michael Kors. This cobalt blue calf leather clutch is a must-have for any woman who embraces effortless style and wouldn't be caught dead carrying the latest trendy "it" bag. The silver push-lock closure combines functionality and understated design. Pair this clutch with your favorite little black dress for evening or wear it as a shoulder bag during the day with the detachable cross-body strap. Best of all, it's actually affordable. Purchase at NET-A-PORTER for a very reasonable $395. Not a bad price, especially considering the fact that it's fully lined in metallic champagne leather.

Kim Kardashian's Gucci Malika Clutch

After years of reality tv, sex tapes, and strutting her curves, Kim Kardashian is finally on her way to accomplishing her life goal of marrying a rich high profile athlete. Conveniently, the Sketcher's spokeswoman, who boasts about keeping her personal life private, released the news of her "surprise" engagement via People magazine just one week later with pictures from her engagement party. She was recently spotted out in Monaco, with her NBA player fiancé Kris Humphries, rocking her custom designed 20.5 Carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond. The blue ill fitting romper she wore, however, was far less fabulous than her ring. Yet, her Gucci Inga Python Sandals and matching Malika Metallic Python Clutch more than make up for the romper. The clutch, in particular, is beyond chic, featuring silky braided knots and on trend fringe accents. I'm also loving the exotic metallic python leather trim. Though the clutch is fun to dress up a daytime outfit, it would be better showcased on a dinner date or a night out with the girls. Purchase at Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,900.

Weekly Fashion Roundup

Zimbabwean model Nyasha Matonhodze, 16, has been in the industry only a year, but is already making major career moves - most recently becoming one of the new faces of Louis Vuitton's fall/winter campaign.
The British-raised newcomer has already been spotted in her share of runway shows, as well as in the pages of Teen Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.

In an interview for NY Mag's The Cut, she spoke on her brief time in the industry:
"If you're not strong-minded, modeling can knock your confidence quite harshly. Every day you're judged on your look, and more so today you're judged on your personality. With that said, a lot of us are 15 or 16 years old, so some girls could really take the criticism personally. What we have to understand is that there's not something wrong with us per se, we just aren't a right fit with the client."
Sounds like she's got a good head on her shoulders. Hope she continues to stay focused, and I'm sure we will see a lot more from her!

After Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton recently met (can you imagine the camera storm), the internet went abuzz over Kate's bag. Well, the dainty black, silk clutch has been identified: a "Maud" clutch by Anya Hindmarch, which is sure to fly off the shelves.

FYI ladies, the First Lady and Duchess were wearing dresses by Reiss and Barbara Tfank.

Liya Kebede has been named as a new ambassador for L'Oreal Paris. The model joins Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, current ambassador's for the brand. While more info is soon to surface, L'Oreal recently released a statement, confirming:
“Her strength and courage has inspired us, her beauty has stunned us. We are thrilled to have Liya Kebede join the L’Oréal Paris family as our new ambassador!”
I'm excited to see her in commercial ads. We love our artists/celebs, but its nice to see a model nabbing one of these deals. Show them how it's done Liya!
