Weekly Fashion Roundup!

Willy Vanderperre shot Miranda Kerr for a "postmodern pinup" story in the November issue of V Magazine. I think I deserve some editorial credit for fusing these two pictures together. Doesn't it look as if she's envious of herself? Feel free to make it your desktop wallpaper...I know I did! Check out the rest of the spread here.

Mario Sorrenti shot Sasha Pivovarova for V Magazine in blackface, which is apparently the new...well...black! I was okay with Lara Stone's blackface editorial in French Vogue because it was fabulous and semi-innovative, but V is clearly just trying to capitalize on the attention that the Vogue spread received...not to mention the fact that this picture is bland and lacks any creativity, or fashion for that matter.

Marc Jacobs Iggy Bags!

Hey guys! Can you believe it's Friday already? I finally updated our playlist. Thanks for introducing me to Lady Gaga's song, Fashion on Screen, avant-gardiste! I also added Kandi and Kim's songs in celebration of this horrible season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta being over. Listen to Rihanna's new song, Russian Roulette, and tell me what you think of it. I'm kind of scared...and not in a good way like Disturbia. But I digress. Marc Jacobs designed the hell out of his fall handbag collection. No more boring quilted bags. Everything has been updated and reinterpreted, resulting in a myriad of chic and completely original pieces, and this flap bag is no exception. First and foremost, how cute is the name Iggy? I don't know where it originates, but I love it. These bags feature quilted python embossed leather with brightly hued ornate prints. The oversized metal chain shoulder strap is on trend and the padlock detail is fresh. The green Iggy Misfit Shoulder Bag retails for $1295, while the Mini Iggy's are available in lavender and yellow for $1395 at Barney's.

Kotur Mosaic Mirror Clutch

Clearly my obsession with cute petite metallic clutches continues. For some reason designers are fulfilling all of my clutch dreams this season. I am addicted to this Kotur bag! Although it is no bigger than the palm of your hand, I think we can all agree that it's more about style than functionality. The cracked mirror detail that envelops the bag immediately caught my attention. It looks like a vintage gold mirror that has been intricately pieced together. The clasp closure also has beautiful jewel-like appeal that is indicative of the immense craftsmanship that went into the clutch. This bag is truly a work of art and it retails for $1,243.04 $866.86 HERE.

No idea who the designer is? Well Kotur is a label of handbags created by Fiona Kotur Marin. Marin's line debuted in 2004 and has made its way into high end stores all over the world. Marin's collection, which boldly bears her maiden name is currently known for stunning evening clutches, quality day bags, and a timeless touch that is often inspired by art deco influences.

Editors Note: The larger silver version of this clutch is on sale for $1,243.04 $866.86 HERE!

Gucci Jungle Bag

Balmain's collection eluded to the fact that Tarzan chic will be "the look" next spring. Hopefully some of you kept your safari pieces from a couple a years ago, because they will definitely be closet staples this upcoming summer. I personally love the jungle aesthetic and I'm so excited that Gucci is continuing to design lust-worthy bags after a surprisingly stunning fall collection. It's hard to believe that just a couple of years ago, it was almost impossible to find anything appealing from Gucci. This large shoulder bag is my favorite piece from the cruise collection. It's crafted out of sumptuous leather and features the quintessentially Gucci bamboo detailing. The adjustable knotted shoulder strap, nickel bullet closure, and dangling fringe details are understated and timeless. My only problem with this bag is the metal chain, but it's detachable so I actually love it, because it's a free necklace or bracelet! It's quite large at 16" x 3.5" x 14.2" and will certainly accommodate every woman's essentials. It actually reminds me of an extremely adorable baby bag. The Jungle shoulder bag retails for $1850 and it's already available for preorder at Gucci in black, white, and orange (my fave).

Donna Karan Sabre Bag

Donna Karan Sabre Bag

I still can't get over how quickly retailers are getting their hands on the 2010 Cruise collections. Of course, everything is for preorder, but when a bag will only be available in limited quantities, I recommend adding your name to the list now. You won't get charged until it ships anyway. Donna Karan's bags have really been working for me lately. I just featured the Crosstown Messenger last week and now I'm addicted to the Sabre Flap Bag. It's just so unique without being over the top. The flap is actually textured leather while the bag itself is smooth, except for the trapunto stitch detailing in the center. The horn toggle clasp is my favorite aspect of the bag. Let's not forget the power of a horn...it literally catapulted Yves Saint Laurent to the mythical status of "it" bag designer. Even the removable strap is a work of art. It's crafted from multiple interwoven strips of leather fastened together with silver hardware. Not to mention the fact that it gives you the option to go hand's free. The black and white versions of the Donna Karan Sabre Flap Bag are available at Nordstrom for $1895.

Donna Karan Crosstown Messenger

Luxury messenger bags used to be impossible to find. In fact, I distinctly remember buying two Christian Dior messengers while in college, simply because they were the only designer cross-body bags that I could find. Today, even exclusive designers are embracing the ultimate casual bag and taking it to new heights as well as higher price tags. Sometimes it works, as was the case with Jean Paul Gaultier's Hermes Jypsiere. But sometimes the result is an uninspired, overpriced tacky mess...ahem Balmain.

Donna Karan's handbags are often overlooked because they're simple and understated, but I find them quite chic and perfect for a contemporary casual look. The crosstown double-zip messenger epitomizes her downtown cool design aesthetic. The multiple zipper detailing gives this bag an urban edge. It's sizeable at 15" x 13" x 4" and will undoubtedly hold all of your winter essentials. This messenger compliments any daytime look and will transition flawlessly from season to season. It's available in plum and black at Netaporter for $1495.

New Balenciaga Flap Bags!

It's nice to see something new from Balenciaga! I mean...how many City bags does a girl need? It's all about the flap bags with chain straps this season, and Balenciaga has finally released their version of the trend. However, the Laine Carrearu flap bag is an epic fail. Why on Earth would anybody want a quilted plaid wool bag? Is lumberjack chic in? Why is it $1445? I just don't get it! But when I saw the Matelasse flap bag, my faith in Balenciaga had been restored. That is, until I found out that it was nylon! The quilted design is fresh, but $1445 for nylon is absurd. I have one word of advice for Nicolas Ghesquiere...stick to what you know...creating high-quality, edgy bags with textured lambskin.

Weekly Fashion Roundup!

Steven Klein shot my girl, Lara Stone, in blackface makeup for a spread styled by French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. A lot of people feel that it is distasteful...but I love it! She looks gorgeous. Maybe they should make Jourdan Dunn white or Chanel Iman (more) Asian for the next issue?!?

I'm addicted to Rodarte for Target! It's white trash glam at its finest! We're talking neon organza, animal prints, combat boots, denim booty shorts and high-waist lace tights. I only have one problem with the collection. Nothing about it says Rodarte to me!

Fade to Black

Let's round out exotics week with my favorite color...black. Diane von Furstenberg's nomadic fall collection was a bit over the top and I think she should stick to what she knows...making women look flawless in gorgeous prints and classic styles. However, her handbags are better than ever! I love this Python Hayworth Daybag! The sumptuous python skin is accented with minimal studded detailing and gunmetal hardware. It will undoubtedly hold all of your essentials with room to spare. Simply removing the shoulder strap will transform this daytime messenger into a fabulous handbag...perfect for your next dinner date. Pre-order the Python Hayworth for $1950 HEREicon. Now for the piece de resistance. This Bottega Veneta handbag is truly a work of art. The buttery-soft snakeskin features a quintessentially BV zigzag stitch and of course, the interwoven detailing. Purchase through Matches Fashion for $4,649.40. Nina's taking over for a couple of days, so I'll see you all on Sunday with a fabulous weekly fashion roundup!

Shades of Greige!

In case you didn't know greige is the combination of grey and beige and it is so hot for fall! Take this Yves Saint Laurent patchwork tote for example. It's the perfect color for those of you that haven't quite embraced wearing white after labor day, but still want to make a statement with a lightly hued bag. Typically, I don't go for patchwork, but because the color palette is consistent...it totally works. The mottled lizard skin is accented by gold tone hardware and the bag itself is pretty sizeable at 14.5" x 10.5" x 6". Now you don't have to choose between the latest issue of Vogue or a cashmere shawl...bring both! This is a once in a lifetime bag and it's well worth the investment of £4,015.00 ($6,422.80) at Browns Fashion. For those of you that love greige as much as I do, check out this VBH python clutch. The crystal detailing is flawless for cocktail parties and it's available at Browns Fashion for £1,695.00 ($2,711.49).

Paige Gamble Exotic Lunch Boxes!

You already know how much I love Paige Gamble! In fact, she was the first handbag designer that I blogged about, and I still can't get enough of her innovative designs. I mean...who else would think of creating fabulous exotic skinned lunchboxes? I seriously can't fathom anything more audacious than showing up at the office with a mango alligator old school lunchbox...except maybe whipping out a yellow ostrich one!

These lunchboxes come in a multitude of different color and exotic skin variations. They range in price from $2800 to $3400 at Paige Gamble. Just to give you a glimpse of the inside, check out this navy pony hair version. Yes...even the thermos is enveloped in exotic skin and the lining is quilted leather. It's so deliciously impractical...isn't it? I swear I would send my imaginary daughter to pre-K with one of these babies, but in the mean time...I think I'm going to pick up the black python version for myself.

Weekly Fashion Roundup!

Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman are on the cover of Teen Vogue. They talk about being friends despite the fact that they are the two fiercest black girls in the game. In fact, when Jourdan got knocked up, Chanel was the first person that she confided in. Awww...that's sweet...but am I the only person that was in the mood for another Naomi vs. Tyra standoff situation?

Speaking of Jourdan Dunn...she walked in the Jean Paul Gaultier show, even though she's like a thousand months preggers! Werq Mama!

Marc Jacobs Laser Bags!

I rarely feature Marc Jacobs bags and I'm not sure why, to be honest with you. Initially I was bored with his classic quilted handbags, but he's come so far since then. I'm addicted to the Rockabilly Leather Shoulder Bag that one of my favorite bloggers, Dania, reviewed several weeks ago. But these laser bags are my favorite pieces from the fall collection. This messenger certainly packs a lot of style into a miniature package. The combination of green pony hair and laser-cut metallic fabric is exquisite. Its satin lined interior is sumptuous and practically screams luxury. The piece de resistance is definitely the gold chain strap. It's sort of utilitarian and undeniably adds an understated touch to the otherwise glamorous bag. Before purchasing this bag, bear in mind that it's the size of a clutch. Its measurements are 5.5" x 8" x 2" and it's available at Barneys for $1150. If you love this style, but you're looking for something more sizeable, Marc Jacobs has got you covered. These shoulder bags measure 10.5" x 12" x 3" but they have a shorter strap. Purchase the cream or black version through Barneys for $1995.

Trend Alert: Lace!!!

Lace is in pretty much every designer's collection for fall! It's a difficult trend to pull off because you can look slutty or matronly if you don't wear just the right amount...at just the right place...at just the right time. I'm not a big fan of lace clothing, but you can never go wrong with a trendy accessory. Take a look at this gorgeous Christian Louboutin lace platform peep-toe bootie! The floral printed lace detail adds just a teaspoon of sex appeal without being over the top. I live for the leopard print pony hair heel and, of course, the red soles that we all know and love. Pair these platforms with a little black dress and you're on trend without being trendy. That's what I love about accessories! You can wear the same LBD...but change the shoes and you have a completely different, updated look. Purchase the Bridget Loubou's through Barneys for $1795. These 3.1 Phillip Lim lace detail gloves appeal to a more feminine woman, that would rather be flirty than overtly sexy. The lace overlay and silk lining gives these, otherwise boring, nude leather gloves an elegant touch. It also comes in black and hunter green...one of my favorite colors for fall! Purchase the Phillip Lim Rosie Driving Glove through Barneys for $325.

Vintage Chanel Gold Bar Clutch

I've been gone for a minute, but I'm back with a hot bag! I can't stop staring at this clutch. It is hard to find good vintage accessories these days, so this Chanel bag is a blessing. The hammered metal clutch is a genuine vintage piece, which means it even has signs of gentle wear or what I like to call "personality." The embossed logo and number detail gives it that authentic gold bar feel. To top it all off, it's Chanel! A vintage Chanel clutch is a one-of-a-kind accessory that will enhance any bag collection. The $4,180 price tag on this beauty at shopbop.com is definitely worth it. The clutch was made available by What Comes Around Goes Around, a company that specializes in finding fabulous and authentic vintage pieces from around the world. I just love the timelessness of this bag and can see myself wearing it with any and everything. I mean...we're talking birthday parties, dinner dates, cocktail parties, strutting my stuff in my mirror...ok, ok, you pretty much got the picture. It's just so mesmerizing!

Weekly Fashion Roundup!

In celeb news: Lady Gaga wears custom Marc Jacobs and spring 2010 Alexander Wang shades to a press conference in New York to promote her new high end headphones collection. Lindsay Lohan looks like a really cheap whore in a new ad for her 6126 leggings line. Beyonce looks ravishing in a pastel blue Maladrino resort 2010 dress at Billboard's 4th Annual Women In Music event. Rihanna showed up at the Vivienne Westwood show without pants?!? P. Diddy turned down the role of James Holt in The Devil Wears Prada because he didn't want to piss off Miranda Priestly Anna Wintour!

Ripped from the runway: Balmain goes Tarzan chic for spring 2010 and I absolutely love it! The strong shoulders are still present, with the addition of cut-off shorts, lamé, glossy leather and sequins. Suck it Jesus...Christophe Decarnin is my God now!

I wanna be model: The November Issue of Glamour Magazine showcases plus-size models. They're nude...they're gorgeous...and they're fat! LOVE Kate Dillon!

Yay: Louis Vuitton is going to stream it's spring 2010 ready-to-wear collection live on facebook at 8:30 am (EST) on October 7th. Thanks Marc!

Versace Socialite Satchel

I'm not sure who January Jones is, but I nearly died when she showed up at the 2009 Emmy Awards in this gorgeous Versace gown! Why blend in with the crowd when you can wear a white chiffon gown with a futuristic bodice featuring cut-out detailing? I loved it so much that I was inspired to check out Versace's fall lineup to see what bags peaked my interest. Believe it or not, I have never featured a Versace bag on BAGPOOR, because I'm not a huge fan of the brand. It screams, "I'm in Miami trick!" I feel the same way about Roberto Cavalli. It's just a matter of preference. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the Socialite Satchel. Versace never follows trends! I mean, look at this bag. It's structured navy blue patent leather with silver hardware. It's not slouchy, oversized, or plum and it doesn't have any studs or gold chains. This truly is the perfect bag for a socialite that doesn't follow trends, but instead purchases high quality statement pieces that she can wear season after season...year after year. Purchase HERE for $3600.

The Socialite Satchel is also available in python for $4890 at select Versace boutiques!

By the way, there are some amazing quotes from Donatella and Gianni that I have been meaning to share with all of you.
  • "Fashion is all about happiness. It's fun. It's important. But it's not medicine." Donatella
  • "You can't pretend that everybody likes Versace. It would be boring. It's better to create a reaction than to create no reaction. That's dangerous." Donatella
  • "Don't be into trends. Don't make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress." Gianni
  • "You dress elegant women. You dress sophisticated women. I dress sluts." Gianni
